Maureen MacDonald of Raleigh, North Carolina was crowned Mrs America
There she is…Mrs.
America...
And she’s a
Raleigh real estate broker! Maureen MacDonald, owner of Bluestone Realty,
was recently crowned Mrs. America 2009 during a pageant in
Arizona.
For those who aren’t familiar with the Mrs. America production, which is
now in its 32nd year, it’s far more than a beauty contest. Mrs.
America
focuses attention on the contemporary married woman – her sensitivity, boundless
spirit, unwavering determination and inspiration to her family and the community.
“I decided to pursue this title because I wanted to become more involved
in my community and challenge myself to get outside of my comfort zone,” MacDonald
says. She also saw this as an opportunity to garner more public recognition
for Child Abuse Prevention (www.preventchildabusenc.org).
The first step to winning
a trip to the Mrs. America pageant is to win one’s
own state title, which she did in April. From there, it was on to
Tucson in September for the big contest.
During this year, MacDonald
has enjoyed the traveling involved with the pageant and making new friends. “It’s wonderful what doors open to you when
you have that crown,” she says.
Married to Mark MacDonald,
a real estate investment manager, MacDonald is the mother of two daughters,
ages 1 and 3. Besides her real estate work, she’s also a part-time dancer
and actress.
A few years ago, MacDonald danced her way into the hearts of many as a Rockette in
the Radio City Christmas Spectacular in
New York,
Chicago and
Detroit and also preformed with them on Oprah, which was the first and only
time the Rocketts appeared on her show. She was also on Broadway and toured
the
United States
in the musical “Crazy for You.”
MacDonald has also been
actively involved within her community as a spokesperson and community
liaison for Prevent Child Abuse and a volunteer for MADD, SPCA, Me Fine
Foundation and the Children’s Miracle Network.
In her spare time, she enjoys golfing with her husband, playing tennis and
loves a good novel.
Now that a new year is
approaching, MacDonald says it’s time to set new
goals.
“Don't be afraid to dream
big! Making my dream of winning Mrs. America
come true began with believing that I was capable and visualizing success,” she
says. “These strategies work no matter what it is you’re trying to accomplish.
My hope is that we can all start the New Year with a sense of empowerment
and positivism.”
