Getting
back to the basics
By
John Wood, RRAR 2009 President
Happy
Valentine’s! It has been a busy new year already and we’ve just
gotten started. A couple weeks ago our country swore in President Obama along
with many new government representatives, including our new governor. Regardless
if you were red or blue in the election, it’s time for all of us to become
“red, white and blue” and rally together to get our nation back
on track.
We’re witnessing one of our nation’s
worse recessions and yes, this time the Triangle is participating much to our
dismay. So pay attention to what’s going on in Washington
and make sure you understand what stimulus programs are available to our clients.
It’s crucial to our economy and your income that housing sales get back on track
in 2009.
While the government is finding ways
to jump start our economy, we as REALTORS® need to work on jump-starting our
own business. You’ve heard a lot of talk about returning to the basics. Sounds
simple, but for some reason we’re all having a hard time remembering what the
basics are.
Do yourself a favor and take advantage
of some sales training and get back to learning how to generate and convert
leads into buyers and sellers. Remember that even the best athletes still go
through pre-season training every year and they practice daily. Why can’t we
do the same? Our role as REALTORS® has changed over the years; however,
without customers we can’t make a living. So it’s time to face today’s real
world and get to work!
At RRAR, we’re also focusing on getting
back to some basics. We’re working hard to find the best way to communicate
with you – the members. The councils and committees at RRAR are inviting speakers
to their meetings to gain insight into how to survive in this market. So, don’t
forget to join us at RRAR for an education session or a council meeting. Check
out the Web site for details on how to attend one of these meetings.
As always,
let me know how we can better serve you and best wishes in 2009.
