Doing the right thing leads to successful real estate career for new RRAR
President
Successful career for new RRAR President stems from simple message:
Be accessible, treat people fairly and do the right thing
By Patricia Gregory
Being responsive and
accessible to agents and consumers earned John Wood, the new president
of the Raleigh Regional Association of REALTORS®, a reputation
for being fair and honest. Wood, a broker with RE/MAX UNITED, says he believes
that this mantra led to his success. “Doing the right thing goes a long
way in this business.”
Wood, recently elected
to serve a year-long term as President, spoke of his early years with RRAR. “I was amazed by the accomplishments achieved
by staff and involved members. I don’t think many of our members understand
what’s accomplished in this (the board) building on a daily basis.”
A native of Raleigh,
Wood grew up in North
Hills, and married his high school sweetheart, Michelle. The couple
now has two children; son Peyton, 11, and daughter Lindsey, 9. The family
lives in Holly
Springs.
Wood joined RRAR’s board of directors three years ago and says he was, “blown
away” by the involvement and the magnitude of work completed by the association.
His astonishment didn’t last long as Wood was soon part of the REALTOR® activity.
“We’ve been pleased that membership remained steady at RRAR in the face
of pressures in the economy and on our constituency,” Wood says about business
in 2008. He adds that the first Triangle REALTORS®
Leadership
Academy graduation was a “huge success,” as was working through the process
of obtaining the charitable status of the REALTOR® Foundation of the Triangle.
Looking ahead to 2009,
Wood says a major focus for the association will be better communication
within the membership and with the general public. “We
plan to be more hands-on with regards to keeping our members informed about
our positive messages,” he says. “We hope to engage more members in councils
and task forces. We have approximately 2,000 firms with five members or less.
We will make more of an effort to reach out to those companies and agents.”
“We need to make sure that we are financially responsible in these tough
economic times,” Woods adds. “We are an extremely well-run and -managed organization
and we owe it to our members to continue that level of quality.”
