Rupert Hobbs passes away
AUGUST 13, 1928 - MARCH 18, 2009
Rupert Hobbs, a
lifelong resident of Raleigh and a long-time member of the Raleigh
Regional Association of REALTORS® (RRAR), died in March following
a stroke. He was 80.
Hobbs
served in the United States Navy in Europe as a hospital corpsman.
After he returned home, he worked with the U.S. Postal Service. He
joined the Raleigh Board of REALTORS® in 1964 and formed his own company,
Rupert Hobbs Realty, in 1966. It became the largest real estate firm
in Raleigh and surrounding areas.
His company was
a pioneer in employing and mentoring women in the real estate profession,
many of whom later formed their own businesses. He was a leader in
marketing and innovative ideas, coining the phrase "Tell a Friend." If
you saw a red car, red suit jacket or red phone, you knew you were
working with Rupert Hobbs Realty.
Hobbs was a member
of the Lions Club, a charter member of the Capital City Club, Old
Timers Club and was a generous donor to many organizations and schools.
In 2005, he was inducted into RRAR’s Hall of Fame. |
