May is always a month full of celebrations
From the President
Celebrating all May has to offer
By John Wood, RRAR 2009 President
May is always a month full of celebrations.
Congratulations to all
of you who have family graduating. May brings with it a sense
of adventure and fear for each class of young people graduating into the
real world. Since the job market isn’t ideal now, new
graduates will get their first lesson in how to survive – so don’t let them
move back home! (You can thank me later.)
May is also the time
to celebrate our mothers! While some of us can only celebrate the memories
of Mom, we need to thank them any way we can. No one supports us the way
our Moms do. When we were kids, it didn’t matter whether
we were right or wrong, our Moms were there to support us – at least until
we got home!
For our members who are
Moms, how in the world do you do it all? Just taking care of a family requires
an overwhelming effort few men would ever succeed in, much less also being
successful REALTORS®! So, for you Moms out there,
enjoy your day and remind your family they don’t have to wait another year
to say THANK YOU, MOM!
In the middle of May, a team of your RRAR leaders head to
Washington ,
D.C. to meet with our senators and representatives to send a message: We
must protect the property rights of landowners. We will also remind our legislature
that we – the little guys – need help to survive this economy. And as always,
small business health benefits and fair tax policies will be part of our
agenda. We’ll also use this time in
Washington to meet with other REALTOR® leaders from across the nation to
pick up new ideas for improving our service to you.
If you have a topic you
would like us to take to “the Hill,” please send
me an e-mail and we’ll do our best to let everyone be heard. We’re here to
represent you!
Meanwhile, I hope your
year is showing continued signs of improvement. The closing numbers for
January and February weren’t pretty, but the increased
number of pending contracts has started to show signs that lower interest
rates and other factors are bringing more buyers into the market. Don’t forget
that even when you’re busy, still prospect for that next client.
We’ll all survive this market if we’re smart and stay positive!
Also, don’t forget to
honor the men and women who have died serving our country. Memorial Day
seems to have lost its meaning with many Americans and only serves as their
official start to the beach season. Don’t let that
be your attitude. Take time this Memorial Day to say a prayer in memory of
our fallen soldiers. Without these brave men and women, we wouldn’t have
the freedoms we enjoy as Americans! Be proud that we live in the ‘land of
the free!’
Thank you for your continued support!
