Fall
2008 voting
Your
association's projections
State
election officials report huge increases in new voters in recent
months: about 257,000 have been added since January, roughly 50,000
of them since the May primaries. Of the total, 145,000 voters have
registered as Democrats, 17,000 have registered as Republicans and
about 95,000 voters have registered as unaffiliated. Most of the
unaffiliated voters, election officials say, are young, black voters
registering for the first time.
All totaled, there
are now 5.9 million registered voters in North Carolina and Bob Hall
of the political watchdog group Democracy North Carolina expects
the total to surpass seven million by November.
